Preliminary operation
To succeed in change the password of the modem Alice, the first fundamental thing you need to do is to log in to the administration panel of the device. At this point, enter the command ipconfig in the window that opened on the desktop and press again Submit on the keyboard. Once this is done, you will be shown the complete list of addresses concerning your connection: you can find the one relating to the modem in correspondence with the wording Default gateway.
Stai using MacOSinstead, go to the System preference selecting theicona dell'ingranaggio present in Dock bar and click on the icon Network located in the window that opens.
Then click on the name of the connection in use (eg. Wi-Fi) in the left sidebar, click on the button Advanced and select the scheda TCP / IP. You will find the address of the modem next to the wording Router.
If you are unable to find the IP address of the Alice modem, try connecting the device to the computer via Ethernet cable and try to log in again in this way.
At this point, you should finally be in front of the initial screen of the modem administration panel, with the writing in the center Alice modem authentication and below the field for entering a password.
To continue, if you have not changed the default modem password in the past, leave the field blank and click the button first Log in and on that Continue, in order to display the screen with the list of all the functions useful for configuring the device.
Alternatively, try using combinations admin / admin o admin / password which are the default ones for most modems in circulation.
If then the default login parameters have been changed and, proceeding as I have just indicated, you are still unable to access the modem management panel, you can solve the problem by carrying out the reset of the device, by pressing and holding the touch black which is located on its back (as I explained to you in detail in my guide on how to reset the modem Alice). Afterwards, try to log in again and you should be successful.
Change the password of the Alice Gate VoIP 2 plus Wi-Fi modem
After logging into the administration panel of the router, you can finally take action and go, therefore, to find out how to change the Alice modem password. You find everything explained in the next steps.
Change the modem password
To change the administration password of the modem, the first step you have to take is to click on the item Access you find in the menu Advanced, located on the right side of the page, and make sure that the item is selected Activate sotto the dicitura User authentication management (otherwise you provide).
Next, type the password you want to use to access the modem in the fields Set password e Repeat the password and click on the button Save, located at the bottom, to save the changes. Easy, right?
Change the Wi-Fi password
The first step you need to take to edit the wireless network password generated by the router, you select the item Wi-Fi present in the menu Standard device (on the left).
After that you have to click on the button Configure Wi-Fi Network present at the bottom of the screen and you must select an encryption mode from the drop-down menu Encryption mode: personally I suggest you to choose the option WPA-PSK AES 256 bit, which is currently the safest, or, if this gives you compatibility problems with some of your devices, you can opt for the options WPA-PSK TKIP 256 bit or WPA-PSK TKIP-AES 256 bit. The important thing is not to choose the option 128-bit WEP, which is an outdated encryption method that can easily be “punctured” by malicious people.
Next, type in the password to use to secure your wireless network in the field Encryption key and save the changes by clicking on the button first Save e poi quello NEXT. As for the choice of password, I recommend that you set one that has a high level of entropy.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, entropy is a value that measures the disorder of a system and that is expressed in bits. As far as passwords are concerned, therefore, it indicates the degree of difficulty with which it is possible to discover all the characters that compose them in relation to the set of characters used to compose it. To give some examples: only lowercase letters, lowercase letters + uppercase letters, lowercase and uppercase letters + numbers and so on.
In other words, you have to choose an access key consisting of 12-16 characters, which does not make sense and contains upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.
