View passwords in Firefox
To understand what I talked about in the introductory part of this post, take a minute of free time and find out how easy it is view the usernames and passwords saved in Firefox. The operation can be performed both on the computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer and on smartphones and tablets.

If you want to find out the passwords stored in Firefox on your PC, open the browser, click on the ☰ button located at the top right and select the item options (o Pref Renze, if you're using a Mac) from the menu that appears. In the tab that opens, go to Privacy and security (in the left sidebar) and first presses the button Logins saved and then Show password e Yes.
As if by magic, Firefox will show you the login credentials of all the websites you have decided to save in its memory.
Smartphones and tablets
The credentials of the sites stored in Firefox can also be viewed in clear text on smartphones and tablets. If you are using the Android version of the browser, tap the ⋮ button located at the top right and select the items Tools> Access from the menu that appears. If you use Firefox for iOS, on the other hand, press the ☰ button located at the bottom right and select the item first Settings from the menu that appears and then the item Accesses from the screen that opens.
At this point you are in front of the page with all the accesses stored in the browser: to view the passwords in clear text, all you have to do is select one and choose the item Show password from the box that is shown on the screen. Easier than that ?!
Clear passwords in Firefox
Now that you are aware of the risks you run by keeping passwords stored in Firefox, the first step I recommend you take is to access your browser settings and delete all the passwords you have saved in your browser.

clear Firefox passwords on Windows, macOS or Linux, open the browser, click on the ☰ button located at the top right and select the item options o Pref Renze give the menu to compare.

To remove passwords stored in the mobile version of Firefox, follow these other steps: if you use Android, start the browser, press the ⋮ button located at the top right and select the item Settings from the menu that appears. On the next screen, select the item Delete personal data (it's at the bottom), put the check mark only next to the option Logins saved and presses the button Delete dati (bottom right) to complete the procedure.
If you are using an iPhone or iPad, press the ☰ button located at the bottom right and select the item first Settings from the menu that appears and then the item Accesses from the screen that opens. At this point, tap the button Modification located at the top right, choose the option Select all which is located at the bottom of the screen to select all the login data stored in Firefox and presses the button Delete at the top right to delete them.
Disable saving passwords in Firefox
You should now be safe from malicious people and nosy people, but Firefox will continue to offer you to save the passwords you use to log into Internet sites. To work around the problem, you have to disable saving passwords in the browser: below you will find explained how to do it.

To disable the password memorization function on your computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer, click on the Firefox ☰ button (top right) and select the item options o Pref Renze give the menu to compare.
Select quindi la voce Privacy and security from the left sidebar and remove the check mark from the item Remember your website login credentials. Mission accomplished! From now on, Firefox will no longer ask you to save the passwords of the sites you visit!
Smartphones and tablets
Acting on smartphones and tablets is just as simple. If you use a terminal Androidavvia Firefox, press the ⋮ button located at the top right and access the settings browser by selecting the appropriate item from the menu that appears. On the next screen, go to Privacy and uncheck the option Remember logins.
It was used iOSavvia Firefox, tap the ☰ button located at the bottom right and select the item Settings from the menu that appears. Then locate the option Save logins and deactivate the lever relative to the latter.
Hide passwords in Firefox
Actually, you can set one password that is required when trying to view saved credentials in Firefox. However, this is a mild security measure, as software like WebBrowserPassView (which I told you about in depth in my tutorial on how to recover passwords saved on Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome) can bypass it without any problem and recover all credentials access saved by the user. If you don't want to lose the ability to store passwords directly in Firefox and want to apply this extra security measure, here's how you need to proceed.

Click on the Firefox ☰ button (top right) and select the item options o Pref Renze from the menu that opens. Next, select the item Privacy and security from the left sidebar, put the check mark next to the option Use a main password and fill out the form that is proposed to you with the password you want to use to protect the Firefox settings (to be typed in the fields New password e Confirm new password). Then press the button OK And that's it.
In case of second thoughts, you can disable the request for the master password by returning to the Firefox settings, removing the check from the option Use a main password and typing the password you currently set for the browser.
Smartphones and tablets
To set a master password in Firefox for Android, press the ⋮ button located at the top right and select the item settings from the menu that opens. Next, go on Privacy, tick the option Use master password, type the password you want to use to protect the browser in the appropriate text fields and save the settings by pressing on OK.

In case of second thoughts, you can retrace your steps and disable the request for the main password in Firefox by returning to the app configuration panel, by deactivating the option Use master password or the option Activate code and entering the password you have currently set to protect your browser settings.
Disable password synchronization in Firefox
If you have activated the service Firefox Sync and you have not given up on saving passwords in Firefox, you must know that all login data stored in the browser are securely loaded on Mozilla's servers and synchronized on all your devices. If you want to avoid logins among the data in question, proceed as follows.

How to manage passwords in Firefox
Now that you know how to view the username and password stored in Firefox in the clear and, more importantly, you know how to delete the saving of login credentials in the browser, you are surely wondering how to manage passwords in Firefox securely. The answer lies in the use of external tools, the so-called password manager.
Password managers are software, available on computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computer">computers, smartphones and tablets, which allow you to store all your passwords in a secure archive, protected in turn by a master password, synchronized with all devices. Using them, it is possible to automatically fill in the login forms of all websites in absolute security, without anyone having access to the passwords in clear text by "peeking" into the browser settings or using programs such as WebBrowserPassView.
Among the best password managers currently available there are LastPass (free in the basic version) e 1Password (for a fee), which are both compatible with Firefox and can be integrated into the Mozilla browser using convenient extensions: I told you about them in detail in my tutorials on how to manage passwords and on apps to store passwords.
